Step 1 of the lesson requires the student to do specific Brain Gym® exercises to open their learning channels.
In step 2 the tutor and student interact in a particular way, as outlined in my book and demonstrated in the video, to compile a list words the student is unable to spell. At the same time the student receives practice in comprehension and positive feedback from the tutor with words they demonstrate they are able to spell already.
Steps 3 to 6 involve the student learning to spell the words they have difficulties with using my tutoring method.
Step 7 tests the student. The testing demonstrates the student has now learnt to spell these words and understands how to use them in written work.
My book and video or DVD explain how these steps must be done to ensure successful learning by the student.

My tutoring method
There is much written about dyslexia, available through Internet websites and books, but little information is available on practical ways to assist dyslexics gain literacy skills. My Seven Steps to Literacy Success™ is a practical method that can unlock the potential of dyslexic individuals.
My tutoring method incorporates the essential ingredients which current educational research shows are necessary for literacy success, and spelling is the tool. The 1-hour weekly tuition lessons provide language experience using interactive tutoring to improve the essential literacy areas of:
- listening skills
- comprehension
- oral language
- spelling
- writing
- reading
Dyslexics characteristically have low scores in some parts of a standard WISC-IV® test such as coding, digit span, and processing speed. These areas are hard to improve, but my method does improve them (some students improve more than others).
Scores in other parts of the WISC-IV® test not affected by dyslexia can go sky-high (some up to the 99 percentile level). This enables the student to increasingly use their cognitive strengths to compensate for their cognitive weaknesses.
